How much does a cleaner cost in Australia?

There is no single price for a cleaner in Australia. What you pay depends on the type of clean, the size of the home, how often you book, and whether you use a company or a private cleaner. Here is how pricing works and what you should expect for the money.

Hourly or fixed price?

Regular house cleaning is usually charged by the hour, because the work is similar each visit. One-off jobs — end of lease, deep cleaning and after-builders — are usually charged at a fixed price based on the size of the property, so you know the total before anyone arrives.

Our prices

All our prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. They are the same in every city we cover.

• Regular cleaning — $45 an hour weekly, $48 fortnightly, $55 for a one-off. Minimum two hours.
• End of lease — from $249 for a studio.
• Deep cleaning — from $229 for a studio.
• After builders — from $329.
• Carpet steam cleaning — $45 a room, minimum two rooms.

How many hours do you need?

As a rough guide for a regular clean: two hours suits a one-bedroom apartment, three hours a two-bedroom home, and three and a half to four hours a three or four-bedroom house. The first clean often takes longer; after that, a weekly or fortnightly visit keeps on top of things.

What an agency price should include

A cheaper hourly rate is not always cheaper overall. When you compare quotes, check whether the price includes:

• GST — some quotes do not include it.
• Insurance — public liability cover if something is damaged.
• Checked cleaners — identity, work rights and a National Police Check.
• Products and equipment.
• Cover when your usual cleaner is sick or on leave.
• A guarantee — what happens if something is missed.

Questions to ask before you book

• Is the price fixed, or can it change on the day?
• Is GST included?
• Can I see proof of insurance?
• Will I get the same cleaner each visit?
• What happens if I am not happy?

Ours comes with a 72-hour re-clean guarantee: if something has been missed, tell us within three days and we return and fix it at no charge. This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
